Annai Vailankkani Arts and Science College started its journey in the year 2009 with the aim of providing education to all multi-cultural and multi-linguistic young minds irrespective of caste and creed. The Most Rev.Dr.M.Devadass Ambrose, L.S.S., D.D., Bishop of Thanjavur nurtured this college to fulfil the dreams of young minds by inducing and promoting traditional humanitarian ethical values, enhancement of literacy, intellectual and all-round developments to empower the world. He considered that the social and economic condition of the youth must not be a hindrance to pursue their degree. He established this college in the academic year 2009-2010 which was confirmed by the governing body held on 26th August, 2008. The Government of Tamil Nadu, G.O.17, dated 08.06.2009, granted its approval to start the college in the academic year 2009. The College initially made its start at V.O.C Nagar, Thanjavur district with modest number of programmes.
In a year, a massive and an imposing building sprang up at the Bishop Sundaram Campus, Pudukottai Road, Thanjavur which was approved in the governing body meeting on 19th of September 2009. The venture of knowledge started in the new building from 16th June 2010 constituting with 04 Departments 69 Students, 06 Faculties and with the support of around 35 non-teaching staff.
The college is situated in the heart of the town, Thanjavur district. The college excelled with good infrastructure surrounded with prolific greenery. It was placed in such a environment which is free from traffic and noise pollution .The college is an amalgamation of competent Teachers, state of art, infrastructure and efficient Management, safe and supportive environment for the students to provide a perfect balance of academic, sports, artistic and social opportunities. To be a world class institution committed to develop individuals to meet global challenges. Provide value based education and mould the younger generation.
At present the college excels with 15 Under-Graduate and 06 Post-Graduate Programmes with 06 M. Phil. and 04 Ph. D. Programmes. We have around 150 faculty members to educate Young minds and of around 2500 students gained opportunity to learn and discover themselves.
In the forth coming years the college will become an institution of higher learning and assure a nurturing and caring environment to make the young minds blossom into empowered and responsible human being in all aspects of life.
